This ancient city of Isis as it was originally named was a prosperous trading area. A main port of Egypt which flourished for 2000 years until it sank into the Red Sea. The old city of Isis can still be viewed underwater and is a regular tourist attraction for the live aboard scuba enthusiasts. "The Sunken City" remains are visible from the Old Town pier. Currently under major renovation the Old Town and neighbouring areas will be transformed and an exclusive development haven is now under construction.
